Democratic School Development in Action: coACTION Multiplier Event Successfully Held in Innsbruck   The coACTION project consortium recently gathered school leaders, educators, and educational experts at the University of Teacher Education Tyrol (PH Tirol) in Innsbruck, Austria, for a successful Multiplier Event focused on strengthening democratic school development across Europe. At the core of the coACTION framework lies the Whole School Approach. Democratic education cannot be implemented as an isolated initiative. Instead, it must involve and actively engage every pillar of the school community, including school management, teachers and staff, parents and families, and of course pupils.   During the event, participants explored how this holistic approach can be integrated into everyday school life in a practical and sustainable way, without creating additional administrative burdens for schools. One of the central elements presented was the coACTION Sensor, an innovative tool that enables schools to conduct a multidimensional assessment of their democratic school culture across 13 quality areas. Based on the results, the coACTION digital platform automatically recommends tailored, ready-to-use classroom methods and educational resources from the coACTION Treasury, supporting teaching staff in implementing democratic practices effectively.   The event also highlighted the successful outcomes of the project’s pilot phase. The results demonstrated that the goals identified through the Sensor can be smoothly integrated into existing school quality management systems (QMS), making democratic school development both achievable and sustainable. A special moment of the event was the presentation of the official participation certificates to the Tyrolean school leaders involved in the pilot phase. The coACTION consortium would like to express sincere thanks to: The Tyrolean Board of Education (Bildungsdirektion Tirol) for their continuous and valuable support. The University of Teacher Education Tyrol (PH Tirol) for hosting and supporting the event. All pilot schools across the consortium for their dedication, engagement, and contribution to the project.     As coACTION now moves towards the broader rollout for the 2026/27 school year, primary schools across Europe are invited to join the initiative and become part of the “Year of Democracy”. Participating schools will receive free access to: The coACTION digital platform The coACTION Sensor The coACTION Treasury of educational resources and methods Schools interested in participating in autumn 2026 are encouraged to contact the coACTION team and secure their place in the next phase of democratic school development.   Democracy in Action: Building a Participatory and Sustainable School Culture Together.
